8 Tips to Better Secure Your Mobile DeviceThese days, we use our mobile devices for everything. From payment of goods and services to banking, web browsing, and even for entertainment purposes. Our phones are always in our hands, or very close by.

And we keep so much personal information on them, with the use of financial services and passwords. It is the reason why you need to put the security of your mobile device at the top of your priority list.

Today I am going to share 8 tips on how to better secure your mobile device.

Always Lock Your Phone When Not in Use

Anyone can easily take your phone and have quick access to any personal account and information you have on your phone. That is why it is important to set up a touch ID. And then you need to back that info up with a unique PIN or pattern for optimal security.

Use A Different Password for Each Account You Access

This rule goes for not only mobile devices but for any account you may access digitally. Password reuse is too common, and it makes it incredibly easy for hackers to gain access to your information on multiple platforms. Use a combination of upper and lowercase letters and numbers. Also, consider using a password manager and test the strength of your password before using it.

Also, consider enabling two-factor authentication for your key accounts. This second layer of security will protect your financial accounts from theft.

Use Extreme Caution When Using Public Wi-Fi Connections

Cybercriminals have the tools to easily access your device and account for public connections. If you must connect to public Wi-Fi, do not visit websites that contain financial or sensitive information. If you do need to visit one of these sites, use a VPN, a “Virtual Private Network”. This will encrypt your data, making it difficult to access.

Be Cautious of Opening E-mail Links

Just like your computer, your cell phone is susceptible to viruses and phishing attacks. Do not click on a link you are unsure of.

Install Antivirus Software

When you add Antivirus software to your phone, you are providing it with protection from viruses. If you have an Android device, you can install the antivirus but this is not the case with Apple iPhones.

Perform a Regular App Audit

Take a look at what apps you have on your device. Delete any unnecessary ones. Do not save your passwords or other sensitive information on the app. Also, be cautious and knowledgeable about what you grant that app permission to do. Mobile Apps tend to request too much privilege.

Regularly Update Your Device

Those updates that appear regularly, do not push them to a later date. They are there for a reason. Most often they are there to help secure your device better. Always allow your device to update.

Consistently Back-Up Your Data

If you were to lose your phone, have it stolen, damaged, how would you feel about the contents on that phone? Devasted at the loss contacts, pictures, apps, and data, I am sure. Back your data up to a trusted cloud service.

Also, turn on remote tracking in the event your phone is lost or stolen. This will help you locate the last known location of your phone, and to be able to remotely wipe your data if necessary.
